Steven Spielberg isn’t on board with a Carls Jr. ‘Spielburger’

Steven Spielberg is likely celebrating right now. Ready Player One celebrates its early opening tonight and fans are already in theaters to see the film.

With any new film comes promo, most often with the knowledge of all involved with the project. For Ready Player One, a restaurant decided to get in on the promo themselves and ‘rename’ their burger after Spielberg himself.

When Carl’s Jr. tried to create a pun using Spielberg’s name, he shut that s*** down. Can anyone say that now without channeling their inner Negan?

Anyway, they sent out a tweet on Monday that they were changing the name of their charbroiled sliders to ‘Spielburgers’ in honor of his new film premiering tonight, Ready Player One.

Apparently, an employee even stopped by a red carpet premiere to get his approval.

Spielberg caught on to the name change and while he says the burgers are quite good, he’s not into it. He asked them to cease and desist.

‘Hey there. It’s recently come to my attention that Carl’s Jr. wants to rename their Charbroiled Sliders ‘SpielBurgers’ and they’re pretty good, but I’m passing. Cease and desist. You can’t do it. Sorry, guys.’

Spielberg’s tweet was sent out by Amblin Entertainment since he’s not on the social media platform himself.

Even though he wasn’t down with the name, Carls Jr was excited that he likes their burgers. So it was a total win-win.

Also, if Carls Jr. wants to name a burger after anyone, Mark Hamil is totally on board with the idea. While taking up for Spielberg, he threw out his own name for a future ‘collaboration’ with the restaurant.

We wouldn’t turn it down.

You can see Ready Player One in theaters now.
