‘Throwback Thursday’: ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ (1984)
Howdy my fellow nerdlings! It is time for another ‘Throwback Thursday’!
This past weekend, I got to attend a horror convention (actually I was joined by a few of my fellow Fanfest Writers), and since then I have been on a horror binge. As much as I love the new generation of horror, I will always have a love for the classics. Aside from my love for Friday the 13th, another horror series that I find myself in love with is none other than Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street.
A Nightmare on Elm Street is a 1984 slasher film written and directed by horror legend Wes Craven. The film starred Heather Langenkamp, John Saxon, Robert Englund, and Johnny Depp. Ironically, this was Johnny Depp’s first feature film debut!
The movie focuses on four teenagers, who are stalked and killed in their dreams (which actually also kills them in reality) by serial killer Freddy Krueger.
The film was made on a budget of $1.8 million, and then went on to earn $25 million in the box office domestically. After making a significant impact on the horror community, a franchise was spawned. Freddy then not only gained his own television series, comic book line and multiple sequels… he also crossed blades with Jason (literally) in the crossover film Freddy vs. Jason.
Check out the original trailer for the film:
