‘9 to 5’ Reboot in Early Stages of Development with Original Stars Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin All Circling

Rebooting 9 to 5?  What a way to make a livin’!

On Wednesday, Deadline reported that a reboot of the classic 1980s film 9 to 5 is in the very early stages of development at 20th Century Fox.  While the new rendering of the classic film will focus on a new group of three young women who are dealing with sexism and chauvinism in the workplace, the group will then turn to the original trio for help.  The stars of the original film Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin have said they are willing and eager to reprise their roles though no formal confirmations have been made just yet.

Deadline continues by saying there are early talks with the film’s original creator Pat Resnick in hopes of teaming her up with a young writer.  Sources say the writer they have their eyes set on is none other than Parks and Recreation star Rashida Jones.

In the original film, Parton, Fonda and Tomlin starred with Dabney Coleman who played their “sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot” boss.  The trio played secretaries in an office who were out to get even with their boss after having their ideas stolen, being passed over for promotions and enduring inappropriate advances and harassment in the workplace.  The film was a huge hit as was Parton’s theme song by the same name.  The movie even inspired a Broadway musical in 2009.

The new film will be produced by Shawn Levy of 21 Laps along with Resnick and Jonathan Baruch of StoryBy Entertainment.

What do you think about a 9 to 5 reboot in the works with involvement from the original cast?  What do you think about Rashida Jones being top on the list to write the new film?  Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below:
