‘The Greatest Showman’s’ Keala Settle Will Sing “This Is Me” at the Academy Awards

Look out ’cause here she comes! Continuing with the tradition of having the Best Orginal Song nominees perform their hits at the Academy Awards, Keala Settle has announced that she will be singing The Greatest Showman’s stunning anthem “This Is Me” at the ceremony – and all is right in the world.

The emotional ballad has been one of the film’s most notable and uplifting songs with the beautiful music and lyrics written by La La Land and Dear Evan Hansen’s Pasek and Paul. It most recently won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song and is hoping to continue the streak with an Oscar. In a behind the scenes featurette, the film’s director Michael Gracey shared a clip of Settle performing the song in front of Fox executives for the first time, where she became visibly overwhelmed by the songs powerful message, sending the whole room (and us) into blubbering messes.

Settle made her Broadway debut in 2011 in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert as Shirley and originated the role of Norma Valverde in Hands on a Hardbody (below) in 2013 for which she was nominated for a Tony. She also played Madame Thenardier in the 2014 revival of Les Misérables and most recently starred in the stage musical Waitress.

In The Greatest Showman, Settle played the bearded lady Lettie Lutz and brought such vulnerability and light to the role. It’s hard to not become emotional as you watch her lead all of the other outcasts that P.T. Barnum put together in his circus through the streets. Listen to the whole song and watch the performance below!

Here are the other nominees for Best Song:

“Mighty River,” Mudbound

“The Mystery of Love,” Call Me By Your Name

“Remember Me,” Coco

“Stand Up for Something,” Marshall

Are you excited to see Keala perform at the Oscars? Be sure to tune in on March 4th on ABC!
