‘Charmed’ Reboot Gets a Pilot Order at the CW Plus a Modern Day Plot Twist

Are you ready for some more Charmed in your life?

Just over a year ago, news broke that a reboot of the popular 1998 series was in the works.  On Thursday, it was officially announced that the CW has ordered the reboot to pilot for the 2018-2019 television season.

The original series followed three sisters who just so happened to also be witches and starred Shannen Doherty, Alyssa Milano, Holly Marie Combs and Rose McGowan (who later on replaced Doherty).  When the reboot originally started development, the series was pitched as a prequel to the original show.  Now that the reboot has been ordered to pilot, the major plot details have drastically changed.

According to Entertainment Weekly, instead of it being a prequel, the Charmed reboot will be written by Jessica O’Toole and Amy Rardin (Jane the Virgin) and will be set in present-day adding a very modern twist to the series.  The CW officially describes the series as follows:

“This fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series centers on three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches. Between vanquishing supernatural demons, tearing down the patriarchy, and maintaining familial bonds, a witch’s work is never done.”

Though nothing has been officially announced regarding any involvement from the original cast, shifting the setting of the series to present day certainly opens the door to a world of possibilities where cameos can now happen!

So, what do you think?  Are you excited about the pilot order for a Charmed reboot?  Would you like to see the original cast members take part in the series?  Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below!
