Chris Evans Shares Solid Advice for Dealing with Anxiety

It’s easy to think of Chris Evans as a lot like Captain America. In fact, in an interview this weekend he said sometimes he sort of compares himself to Cap. Like, between ice cream or broccoli, well…Steve Rogers would get broccoli. It’s the little things.

To his fans, however, it goes far beyond that.

He inspires, he uses his platform for good, and he’s never been shy about his personal struggles with anxiety. Allowing fans to see a bit of themselves in their own favorite hero.

On Saturday, he took to his Twitter account and shared some advice he’d been given to combat anxiety some time ago. It seems easy in the moment, almost like a solution so simple we should have all figured it out by now. However, when he explains the simple action and the complex process behind it

He begins by saying everyone’s brain is noisy, and that’s what a brain does. It produces thoughts. However, it’s easy to allow yourself to feel like those thoughts and that noise defines you. The truth is, you’re a separate entity from them altogether and you have the power to deviate from them.

‘The problem is I think in most of our lives is the root of suffering is following that brain noise and listening to that brain noise and actually identifying with it as if it’s who you are. That’s just the noise your brain makes and more often than not it probably doesn’t have much to say that’s going to help you.’

‘The times that I’ve felt my best are the moments I’ve been able to pull that plug and go ‘Chris. shhh…shhh…and it’s not quitting, it’s not giving up, it’s not washing your hands of the thought; it’s rising above it. It’s operating on a separate plane. You can’t dissect why that works because the reason it works doesn’t speak the same language that the brain speaks. You can’t try and say why shush because the shush is different When you just shhhh, it feels good. You’re like that’s better.’

The willingness Chris possesses to be so open and honest with his anxiety is just another aspect of his personality that inspires his fans so much. He’s not afraid to talk about the fact that sometimes it’s too much. Sometimes he has to unwind and step away before all of those unimportant things start having too much value. Sometimes, he has to disconnect.

That disconnect is a plus for fans too because sometimes it comes with a quick picture or video of Chris and Dodger, and those are our favorite.
