See the Unnerving Teaser for ‘The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story’

When news broke that Ryan Murphy was working on a season of American Crime Story concerning the murder of Gianni Versace, interest was peaked. The high profile crime is still one of the most infamous murders in the pop culture realm. Gianni was killed on the front steps of his own home by a spree killer, whom many believe should have been taken into custody long before he had the chance to cross paths with Versace.

One of those people is Darren Criss, who plays Andrew Cunanan. Upon discussing his character, Criss said that the manhunt to find Cunanan was the biggest blunder of the FBI, ever.

‘This particular manhunt is the largest failed FBI manhunt in history.’

Cunanan murdered at least five people before killing himself on July 23rd, 1997 in Miami Beach, Florida. His suicide happened just days after he murdered Versace on the steps of his home. Cunanan was chased as he fled the scene but was able to escape being found, this was due to his ability to disguise himself quickly. Needless to say, nothing about Versace’s murder was random.

In this first look teaser, some of the cast and crew discuss the murder, the impact it had on society, and all the ways the mark was missed.

At one point in the teaser, Cunanan even told a man in a club that he was a serial killer. He was also called out for lying about his sexuality. When confronted, he simply said ‘I tell people what they need to hear.’

As Nina Jacobson, Executive Producer said in the first look – they’re examining how America is guilty of the crime as well as, in this case, Cunanan. It’s going to be an enlightening look at an already insanely publicized and troublesome case.

The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story will premiere on January 17th.
