Jeremy Renner says Stand-Alone Hawkeye Film Would be a ‘Wonderful Thing’

If you’d asked Jeremy Renner years ago if he was totally stoked about playing Hawkeye in the MCU, well, he wouldn’t have said that the hero was his first choice. Not that he didn’t appreciate being part of something so massive, it just wasn’t who he’d auditioned for when the time came. However, what he brought to Hawkeye was something important for the hero and for Renner.

He brought an incredibly likable character to the big screen and made audiences around the world root for him. He’s since embraced the role and would even love to see a solo film for Hawkeye, just as long as it’s sooner than later.

First things first, however, Renner spoke about Infinity War. Or, he didn’t really speak about it at all.

‘It’s difficult, because you want to speak about the movie but you can’t. There’s a lot of superheroes in it, and it’s gonna be big and it’s gonna be awesome. But I can’t really talk about the movie.’

He also touched on some other fan theories, that Clint Barton may take on the role of Ronin in Avengers 4. This is the MCU we’re talking about so, of course, we didn’t get anything at all except for his acknowledgment of the character’s presence.

‘I can’t get into the theories … I know Ronin is in the comics, but otherwise, I don’t really know anything about that stuff.’

After remaining largely tight-lipped, he did offer fans a bit of information. Or rather, he shed some light on the fact that he believes fans will be pleased.

‘We’re doing a lot of really wondrous things that I’ve always wanted to do with this character … I think everyone will be very pleased when they find out what happens.’

So what was Renner able to give fans? Information on future projects and how his focus is shifting. While he enjoys blockbusters, he’s got a daughter at home, a 4-year-old one at that. He wants to be able to spend time with her and his family, rightfully so.

The interviewer said that multiple times, Renner touched on the fact that he wasn’t focusing on ‘new work’ and while he does have some existing projects in development, they’re not exactly going to be leading him on tours all around the world. That is unless Marvel is going to be sending out that invite for Hawkeye’s stand-alone film.

So to come full circle, why does he want it to happen sooner than later? Well, he’s got his reasons.

‘Just don’t wait too long! I don’t want to be in my 50s in tights.’

We don’t think he looks a day over 28, but the MCU might want to get that Hawkeye film rolling soon – he definitely deserves it.
