This week’s bus victim metahuman is Mina Chayton, who has the ability to bring inanimate objects to life. Barry and newbie Ralph are on her trail and it is not easy. After their first encounter with Mina, Barry chooses to save her target’s life instead of going after her, to which Ralph is annoyed. He thinks that the main priority is to catch the villain. Barry disagrees, saying that their purpose is to protect people. The next time Mina strikes, Ralph doesn’t listen to Barry and as a result, a little girl gets hurt and ends up in the hospital. This hits Ralph really hard and he doesn’t know how to handle being the protector of an entire city.

Meanwhile, Cisco and Harry are trying to figure out how to track down DeVoe. Harry has talked before about how he’s friends with the most brilliant people, and Cisco suggests calling them and getting their help. However, Harry’s “friends” are just other versions of himself. And they are quite the group. There’s the intellectual Harrison Wolfgang Wells, the charismatic H. Lothario Wells, and the murderous cyborg Wells 2.0, and the accidental appearance of real life wizard Wells the Great, but they quickly get rid of him. The Council of Wells convenes, but it does not go according to plan. All they do is bicker, so Harry sends them away.

Harry admits to Cisco that he doesn’t like any of them because they’re just a bunch of idiots. They are in no way his friends. Cisco then says that Harry’s real problem is that he doesn’t like himself. He’s just looking at extreme versions of characteristics he already has (though Harry isn’t quite as charismatic as Lothario). They are probably the most brilliant minds in the universe and together they could solve any problem, but Harry has to accept himself. Harry calls the Council of Wells back, and together, they do figure out how to find DeVoe.

Barry comes to Ralph, who really doesn’t want to be a superhero anymore. As a PI, he was never in any situations where people could get hurt. If he was working a case, he would deliver the solution and then get out, simple as that. He doesn’t know if he has it in him to be a hero and save people. Barry tells him that he sees it in him. Being a superhero is hard, but he believes Ralph can do it.

Mina strikes once more and Barry and Ralph are there to stop her. She brings a skeletal T-Rex to life, grabbing the piece of a necklace she needs before fleeing. Barry goes after Mina and Ralph is left to deal with the dinosaur. The T-Rex comes upon a security guard, but Ralph gets in the way. He gets chewed up a bit by the dinosaur, but then stretches and wraps himself around its mouth, keeping it closed. Barry stops Mina and the day is saved. Mina is carted off to Iron Heights.

Back at S.T.A.R. Labs, Ralph seems more enthusiastic about being a superhero. He refuses Barry’s offer to get coffee and goes to visit the girl in the hospital. Cisco and Harry come in and say that they’ve figured out who DeVoe is. His first name is Clifford and they track him down. With Cisco and Caitlin ready to vibe in at the first sign of trouble, Barry and Joe go to DeVoe’s house. They are greeted by Mechanic, who is dressed normally. They ask if Clifford is home and she asks what they want with her husband. DeVoe then rolls up to them in a wheelchair, also looking normal.

The episode had Mechanic and DeVoe at odds because she thinks that Team Flash is figuring things out faster than they had accounted for. DeVoe assures that he has worked out every possible move they can make. Everything ends in his victory. I’m interested to see what happens with the loving couple versions that we saw at the end of last night’s episode. I definitely wasn’t expecting that reveal.

Ralph grew on me a little bit more this week as he struggled with being a hero. It is a hard job and his easygoing attitude isn’t going to work all the time. Barry is doing a good job of training him in terms of the basics of heroing, but there’s not much he can do to help Ralph with his powers. Ralph did have a great solution to stopping the T-Rex though and I’m interested to see what else he’s going to bring to the table. I’m wondering if something is going to happen down the line that will turn Ralph against Team Flash. DeVoe set him up to gain powers and then meet Team Flash, so there’s definitely more in his master plan for Ralph.

The Council of Wells was hilarious and the newest renditions of Wells did not disappoint, though I did wish Wells the Great had come back. Tom Cavanagh is so good at creating all the different Wellses and making them all so different from each other. It was really great.

Next week’s episode of The Flash is titled ‘Therefore I Am.’
