Jon Bernthal on The Punisher: ‘It’s About Pain’

At the New York City premiere of Netflix’s highly anticipated The Punisher, lucky fans were able to share in not only photo opportunities and incredible Italian dining, but also in information as to what went into the making of the series.

Of course, Jon Bernthal seems born to play the role, and after seeing him in Marvel’s Daredevil, fans were just waiting until there was an entire series dedicated to his portrayal of the character. A strong man hellbent on

Bernthal himself said that the series is a piece about pain and grief.

‘This is a real piece about grief; it’s about pain. What we ask in the course of this season is ‘What do you do next? What do you do with the war inside, and how do you face that?’

What is the next he’s talking about? There will likely be more than one answer. Of course, the question will be asked, how do you survive the despair of losing those closest to you. There will also be the next steps though. What do you do when you can’t make sense of the world anymore and what do you do when you’ve started upon a path for vengeance and found more evil than you ever imagined?

Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s head of television and executive producer mentioned that a big idea through the series is the idea that this hero, the Punisher, is real in a way that matters.

‘In terms of how vulnerable he can be, how human he can be, you really are on the edge of your seat. This is not a hero that bullets bounce off of, this a hero that bleeds, and that’s important to us.’

The Punisher premieres on Netflix November 17th, and it’s gearing up to be one of the most talked about series’ in recent history. You won’t want to miss it.
