‘Marvel’s New Warriors’ Not Moving Forward at Freeform

It looks like fans will have to wait a little longer to see Squirrel Girl make her television debut.

According to a Hollywood Reporter exclusive, Marvel’s New Warriors will not be airing on Freeform like it had been previously announced. The half-hour comedy, which had already been ordered straight to series, had reportedly been well-received by executives that have gotten a peek at the project.

Marvel’s New Warriors stars Baby Daddy‘s Derek Theler, and This Is Us‘ Milana Vayntrub as Mr. Immortal and Squirrel Girl and tells the story of six young people are still learning to deal with these abilities that they have. Mr. Immortal and Squirrel Girl will be joined by Night Thrasher, Speedball, Microbe, and Debrii. Enlisted‘s Kevin Biegel is executive producer and showrunner.

“We are extremely excited about Marvel’s New Warriors and look forward to finding the perfect partner to launch the series in 2018,” said Dan Buckley, president of Marvel Entertainment.

The question now becomes who that “perfect partner” may be. With Freeform not able to open a spot on their 2018 roster, will Marvel be looking outward to other streaming services or perhaps another network?

Hulu already has Marvel’s Runaways while ABC has Agents of SHIELD and Inhumans and Fox has The Gifted.

Wherever the series may land hopefully, it lands in time for its 2018 debut.
