Zachary Levi Cast as Shazam
Fellow nerds, we interrupt your Stranger Things binge-a-thon to bring you this awesome news bulletin: We finally have our Shazam and his name is Zachary Levi!
The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively that the Chuck alum will star as Shazam in the character’s solo film, directed by David Sandberg. Shazam centers on a boy named Billy Batson who can transform into the superhero Shazam – an acronym of the gods and historical figures Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury – just by saying ‘Shazam.’
The project – which will be the next DC film to go into production – is eyeing a 2019 release with production possibly starting this February. Along with Shazam, Warner Bros. is also planning to develop a movie about Black Adam, the Shazam villain who will be played by Dwayne Johnson.
Levi is no stranger to the hero world, co-starring in 2013’s Thor: The Dark World and playing the lead in Heroes Reborn. He is expected to reprise his role as Fandral in Thor: Ragnarok, opening next Friday.
