Club Cumming has Arrived, so B-Y-O-Yarn?

You’ve heard of Bring Your Own Booze, but have you heard of Bring Your Own Yarn?

Actor Alan Cumming has recently opened Club Cumming in Manhattan’s East Village. What sets this club apart from the others is that he adds a bit of wackiness with a thespian twist.

The club features a mixture of performance, DJs and theme nights, as eclectic and unexpected as Alan himself.

This idea began as a series of impromptu parties held in Cumming’s Cabaret dressing room when his producer, Daniel Nardico thought they deserved a more permanent venue.

“I asked him [Cumming] if he would want to open a brick and mortar venue, and lo and behold he did,” Nardicio said. “Then we shopped around looking at places until we found our current spot, and it’s been a blast.”

Club Cumming promises an array of wackiness that involves Reading for Filth, Crisco Disco, and Stitch and Bitch evenings.

“It’s like a jamboree, with our ‘Knitmaster’ Tom teaching people different types of stitches, and having a weekly challenge, such as hat, scarf, shawl, and then working to have a few gifts for the holiday season,” Nardicio says. “The idea came around because a friend used to knit and complain to a friend of his, we called it stitching and bitching and then it became a thing.”

The club has been described as ‘Downtown Debauchery’ at it’s finest.

“Alan wants it to be a home for everyone of all ages, all genders, all sexualities, who all enjoy letting go and making some mischief. No judgments, no attitude, no rules, except kindness, acceptance and fun,” Cumming’s rep explains.

While all kinds of people are welcome, one thing is not: cellphones.

“I’ve always wanted to make people talk to each other instead of looking at their phones… To have a local bar that is home for artists and those who love them, that’s important to me,” says Cumming.

This quirky club is located on East 6th Street and is guaranteed to bring the mischief. So pack your knitting needles, but leave your cell phone at home!
