Arrowverse 2017 Crossover Event Gets Poster and Title

Arrowverse 2017 Crossover Event Gets Poster and Title

The CW has revealed the official title for this years’ four-way crossover event between Supergirl, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Arrow: ‘Crisis on Earth-X’

In the comics, Earth-X is a world where the Nazis won World War II. But hang on, didn’t we already hear about another CW show taking place in this universe? During SDCC, it was announced that a new animated series was coming to CW Seed entitled DC’s Freedom Fighers: The Ray. Interesting that we’re going to see a bit of this world before the series debuts.

But what is most interesting is the poster. A homage to the silver age of DC comics, this poster includes all of our favorites from the four shows. From The Flash, we have Barry, Cisco, and Caitlin (note that she’s listed as Killer Frost). From Arrow, Oliver, Curtis, Dinah, and Rene. From Supergirl, Kara (and in the main image Martian Manhunter). And from Legends of Tomorrow, Sara, Amaya, Jax/Stein, Ray, Mick, and newcomer Zari. Then there’s the Ray, who was just announced as being played by Quantico actor Russell Tovey. Tovey will also voice the character in the animated series.

What might be most intriguing about this poster is the omission of some characters. Where are Diggle and Nate? For Diggle, this could mean that he doesn’t make it off of Lian Yu. Or maybe he will be involved, but the creators wanted to make us suffer a bit and think that he’s dead.

Now let’s examine the middle of the poster. In the foreground is Barry and Iris getting married. It was confirmed that they would indeed tie the knot this season, but the question would soon become: Can they stay married?

Behind Barry and Iris, we see our heroes squaring off against possible evil versions of themselves. The trailer for Freedom Fighters had the team fighting Nazi versions of Oliver, Barry, and Kara, but their costumes were a little bit different. On the poster, they are positioned opposite Kara, Oliver, and Barry so the actors could be pulling double duty (and my hat’s off to them). There’s also a fourth member of the evil crew that might be Dark Archer. If so, that means Malcolm Merlyn is coming back. Another theory is that we may see Dark Arsenal, which would be seriously amazing and unexpected.

There are a couple of interesting things going on on the heroes’ side of the line as well. Next to Sara, there’s another light-haired character. It’s Killer Frost. Which means that Caitlin may not be evil when using her icy powers after all! That would be awesome. Partially obscured by Barry’s shoulder is another possibly familiar bad guy turned hero: Captain Cold. The glasses look oddly familiar. We know that Snart is set to return to Legends, but it is unknown where his allegiance will lie. This has him on the side of good.

All in all, this poster is really intriguing and is making me even more excited for the crossover event. It is always a fun time of the year and they always end up being really great episodes.

The two-night ‘Crisis on Earth-X’ Event kicks off Monday, Novemeber 27th, with Supergirl and Arrow, and concludes Tuesday, November 28th, with The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow.
