The 2017 Emmy Awards Complete List of Winners – ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ and ‘Big Little Lies’ Win Top Honors
The 69th annual Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony is officially in the books and what a night it was! On Sunday, Hollywood’s best and brightest gathered to celebrate some truly amazing shows and series.
Praise be! This year, The Handmaid’s Tale took home a total of six wins including one of the night’s top honors for Best Drama Series. Trailing just behind the dystopian drama was Big Little Lies which won a total of five awards including Best Limited Series.
Westworld and Saturday Night Live were both tied for the most Emmy nods with 22 nominations. Saturday Night Live picked up six total wins including Best Variety Sketch Series while Westworld came up short with no trophies.
History was made at this years Emmys and it was glorious! Lena Waithe became the first black woman to win an Emmy for writing for her work on Master of None. Donald Glover took home two awards for his work on Atlanta. He became the first black director to win an Emmy for directing a comedy series. Sterling K. Brown won the honor of Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his role on This is Us making him the first black actor to win the award since 1998 when Andrew Braugher won for Homicide: Life on the Street.
Additionally, Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus took home her sixth-consecutive win for her role on series earning her the title of most Emmys won by a single performer for one role and Elisabeth Moss took her her first Emmy ever for her role in The Handmaid’s Tale. Moss had been nominated six times before for her roles in Top of the Lake and Mad Men.
What a monumental night it was! The full list of winners is below including the acting awards given out during The Creative Arts Emmys which were presented earlier this month. Awards presented during the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony on Sept. 9-10 are marked with an asterisk (*).
