Benedict Cumberbatch doesn’t only have a love for playing characters that allure mystery, but he has the natural talent of playing men of scientific intelligence.
Having previously portrayed Alan Turing in The Imitation Game, the Sherlock actor is now stepping into the shoes of Thomas Edison, a historical genius who developed the light bulb, among other successes such as the invention of the motion picture camera.
The Current War takes us on a journey, which delves into the bitter rivalry between two significant intellects, who are eager to be the first (and only one) to introduce a sustainable and profitable electricity system. With Edison Electric Light Company championing on the use of direct current, Edison must battle it out against Westinghouse Electric Company’s favourable alternating current electricity flow.
Michael Shannon portrays George Westinghouse, while Fantastic Beasts’ actress Katherine Waterston will play the role of Westinghouse’s supportive wife, Marguerite Erskine.
Spider-Man’s Tom Holland will also appear in the Weinstein Company film, alongside Nicholas Hoult who we see a glimpse of towards to the end of the trailer starring as Nikola Tesla.
The Current War will be released November 24th (US) and January 5th 2018 (UK).
