‘Super Troopers 2’ Gets an Official Release Date
This… is… HAPPENING! Just weeks after Broken Lizard announced that post-production had officially wrapped on the Super Troopers sequel, we have news regarding an official release date!
Earlier in the week, Steve Lemme spoke with Vermont’s independent media outlet Seven Days teasing a possible release date for the film. Earlier in the interview, Lemme had said the film would be released in 2018 before teasing the specific date by saying, “There is [a specific release date], but I can’t tell you what it is. Here’s what I can tell you: It’s springtime and there’s a very obvious date, which happens to fall on a Friday this year.”
By “this year” he was referring to 2018 and fans of the original film quickly ran to look at their calendars. In scoping out each Friday in Spring of 2018, there was only one date which made sense and which stood out above the rest. Broken Lizard has now confirmed that speculation and the official release date for the film which will be April 20, 2018 (4/20).
Broken Lizard announced the official release date by posting the following note on their website:
“Thanks to over a decade of work and almost 55,000 backers on Indiegogo, the long wait in the cold is finally over. Well, not over, but the end is in sight. Super Troopers 2 will be hitting theaters in wide release on… ahem… 4.20.18.
We couldn’t be happier, and we owe a huge thanks to our fans. Without them, there would be no sequel, and we damned well know that.
In the meantime, start rolling, packing or vaping, because we want you in the right mood for when the teaser trailer drops”
It’s definitely a super fitting release date for a Super Troopers sequel. The first film was released in 2001 and was pure comedic gold starring the whole Broken Lizard gang including Erik Stolhanske, Steve Lemme, Jay Chandrasekhar, Paul Soter in addition to Heffernan. The Broken Lizard gang starred as Vermont state troopers who did more goofing around than policing until the local police force tried to take over their jurisdiction. In an effort to preserve their jobs, the troopers banded together to do everything in their power to outdo the local police and solve the mystery behind a murder and possible connections to a drug ring.
Fans were responsible for fundraising a portion of the budgeting for the film thanks to a campaign run through Indiegogo.com. According to Lemme, their donations will certainly pay off as he said this is going to be the best Broken Lizard film yet! Lemme said:
“It’s going to be our widest release and it’s testing better than any movie we’ve tested. It came out fantastic.”
