Happy ‘Throwback Thursday’ Everyone!! With all of these Pumpkin Spice postings flooding my news feed, I have been finding myself in quite the Halloween spirit! So naturally, I began binge watching all of my favorite scary movies and TV shows.
One of those scary TV Shows that I always adored was Are you Afraid of the Dark – which just recently celebrated its 27th anniversary!
Are You Afraid of the Dark? is a Canadian-American horror fantasy television series. The original series, which premiered on Halloween in 1990, drew in audiences from across the world. The show originally aired on the Canadian television netweork YTV, before it was picked up by Nickelodeon’s SNICK in 1992. From there, the show continued to hold a steady audience on the SNICK Network until it finally came off the air in 200.
Are You Afraid of the Dark? revolved around a group of teenagers called – The Midnight Society.
Every week, at a secret location in the woods, one member would tell a scary story to the group. We the viewers would then see the actual story being told, instead of seeing the teens telling the story.
What was cool about it was that each storyteller would begin their story by saying “Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society, I call this story…” at which point he or she would toss a handful of “midnight dust” from a leather pouch into their campfire.
The themes of the stories usually centered around urban legends and short stories or a wide variety of paranormal creatures such as demons, werewolves, haunted houses…etc.
The show was both a critical and commercial success, even gaining awards such as “Best Children’s Program or Series.”
Who else remembers this show?!
