‘Star Wars’ Obi-Wan Kenobi Film in the Works

We’re about to get an even more in-depth look into the Star Wars world!  It was announced on Thursday that a standalone film is in the works centered around the character Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Development of the film is still in the early stages but it has been reported that Oscar-nominated filmmaker Stephen Daldry is in very early talks to helm. Daldry has previously received critical acclaim for his work on Billy Elliot and The Hours and has most recently directed episodes of Netflix’s The Crown.

With the film still being in the earliest of stages, there isn’t much in regards to details to share.  No script has been written just yet though, if he signs on, Daldry would oversee that process and it is not yet known if Ewan McGregor will be reprising the role.

This new film will be one of many products of Lucasfilm and Disney that will serve as standalone films such as Rogue One and the upcoming Han Solo film.  Other standalone films reported to also be in development include one focusing on the story of Jabba the Hutt and also fan favorite Boba Fett.

Obi-Wan Kenobi has appeared in the first six Star Wars films and was played by Alec Guinness in the original trilogy.  McGregor took over the role in the prequel films (Episodes 1 through 3).  Obi-Wan Kenobi plays an important part of the Star Wars universe as he is the Jedi Master who first trains Anakin Skywalker (aka Darth Vader) and then also goes on to train the film’s hero Luke Skywalker.
