Here’s what the A on Daryl’s Jumper Meant on The Walking Dead

The time that Daryl spent with Negan and the Saviors is a time fans of The Walking Dead would appreciate forgetting about altogether. It was absolutely awful to watch him suffer at the hands of The Saviors while trying to process Glenn’s death and being treated as a subhuman.

At first, Daryl was stripped – mentally and physically – and confined to a room no bigger than a closet. Then, when he was allowed out, he was given a jumper with the letter A on it. Fans wondered what the letter meant or if it held any significance, and writer Angela Kang revealed now that Negan’s reasoning for the letter is totally, well, ‘Negan’.

It just means a–hole. They’re being juvenile. Like an a–hole and an F and an S for f—face and s—head.’

Norman joked that he thought the A stood for a zodiac sign, saying, ‘I thought it meant Aquarius.’

This information comes from The Walking Dead: The Complete Seventh Season blu-ray collection on the commentary track for The Cell.

Fans also learn that the jumper and sweat pants was originally supposed to be a factory jumpsuit but Scott Gimple thought it looked too much like clothing from another popular television show. Angela revealed, ‘Scott thought it would look too much like LOST.’

There’s a bit of irony in the A on the jumpsuit, and now that Norman is out of Negan’s grasp, we can sort of laugh about it. Or at least laugh about Negan being so full of himself that he’d decorate clothing with letters reflecting mean names.

We don’t think we’d ever be able to laugh about anything that happened to Daryl in ‘Camp Negan’. As a matter of fact, we prefer (like we said earlier) to pretend that just never happened at all.
