‘Grey’s Anatomy’ is Introducing a New Doctor and Family Member to Grey Sloan Memorial

Season 13 of Grey’s Anatomy saw a lot of Drama with the introduction of a new ‘education consultant’ Dr. Eliza Minnick who rubbed almost everyone at Grey Sloan the wrong way. Dr. Minnick brought a lot of drama to the series – not that it was ever lacking – and her character was also fired after just a short stay at the hospital.

With her absense, the window for an even more dramatic character opened up, and with a new announcement, fans learned that the spot has been filled. Stefania Spampinato is joining the cast as Dr. Carina DeLuca who’s profession is controversial and who’s presence will be nothing positive for her brother, Andrew DeLuca.

Giacomo Gianniotti had this to say to EW about his character’s experience when his sister comes to town.

This year, we’re going to definitely have DeLuca’s character a little more fleshed out with the arrival of his sister from Italy. We’re going to see a new dynamic in the hospital as his sister arrives, and it’s not exactly good news; he’s frustrated by it.

He went on to talk about her profession and how they’ll be reaching out to their Italian fans more with her arrival.

She has a very interesting and controversial — some would say — profession within the medical field, which makes him uncomfortable. It’s a thorn in his side, her being there, but everybody else is quite fond of her. She will be working at the hospital, and she’s going to help tell the story of DeLuca and how he comes from Italy. They’re going to speak a little bit of Italian, which will be nice for the Italian fans, because the show’s so big in Italy.’

While no other details have been released yet, we’re super curious as to what her job title is and why it affects DeLuca so deeply. On the plus side, with the new season premiering this September, we won’t have to wait long to find out.
