We’ve been waiting to hear this news for what seems like forever but Super Trooper fans, get psyched! Film star and a member of the Broken Lizard comedy group Kevin Heffernan announced that the film has officially completed its post-production and is now just awaiting a release date.
Heffernan, who plays Farva in the film, posted a detailed update on filming to the Broken Lizard website. He writes:
“We’ve officially finished the editing/post production process. Huzzah! This past week we completed the Sound Mix and Color Correction, the final steps in bringing this baby to life. We’re very excited.”
Huzzah indeed though, his confirmation that post-production had just finished caused some confusion amongst fans. There had been previous reports that the Super Troopers sequel was already being screened in front of test audiences though, Heffernan took a moment to clarify that as well. He writes:
“We’ve posted about how we’ve been doing test screenings already and some folks were confused how we do that if the film was not technically “done.” The reality is that those screenings are done with an unfinished product: temp sound & music stuffed in and a low res picture. It’s important to do those screenings before everything is locked in, so we can see what works and what doesn’t, what jokes play and what jokes suck and then make adjustments accordingly. But at some point you have to stop that process and lock everything in. The sound mix and the color correction mark the end of that process. Both are exciting, not just because they are the final steps, but because they vastly improve the film.”
So, now that everything is locked in place, what happens next? We all, fans, cast and crew alike, await a release date. Heffernan writes:
“Next step: We await our release date. Fox Searchlight has reviewed the finished product and will soon inform us of the plan. When we have the release date you will be the first to know. That’s when trailers, posters and all the promo materials will launch. It’s painful to wait for this process because we’re dying to share this film with you, but each step takes us closer. Again, we could not have done this without you and we thank you for all of your help.”
This is all super exciting stuff but we can’t help but be a little impatient. The first film was released in 2001 and was pure comedic gold starring the whole Broken Lizard gang including Erik Stolhanske, Steve Lemme, Jay Chandrasekhar, Paul Soter in addition to Heffernan. Fans had a lot to do with the sequel being made especially since a campaign run through Indiegogo.com was responsible for a portion of the budgeting for the film.
We are so excited for this film! We can’t wait to see what kinds of crazy shenanigans these guys get into in the sequel!
