‘The Walking Dead’ Showrunner Scott M. Gimple Says Season 8 is “Massively Heavy on the Action”

The Walking Dead fans know that an All Out War is brewing in the very near future on the AMC hit series but, as we’ve seen in some of the past seasons, sometimes it can take a while to actually get to the action.  Of course, any good story needs character development, build up and a lead into those epic moments but, too much of this type of storytelling and viewers can get bored.  As fans, we definitely want to see more of the action and drama unfolding, especially when it comes to Rick’s group taking on Negan and the Saviors.  Lucky for us, it’s sounding like season 8 is going to be anything but boring!

According to showrunner and executive producer Scott M. Gimple, fans won’t have to wait too long for the storyline to explode (probably literally) with action!  In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gimple said that action will be coming to season 8 quickly and relentlessly:

“It’s massively heavy on the action.  I really wanted to push into different ways than we’ve done things in a long time, just by virtue of we’re a show going into its eighth year and I really don’t want to do what we’ve done before, even if we’ve done it really well. If we’re super satisfied with it, that’s why we shouldn’t do the same thing. And because of that and really mostly because of the narrative itself, I had us embrace a really action-heavy story for several episodes in a row.”

This should definitely come as a welcoming message to many fans who have felt that perhaps the last few seasons have dragged on just a hair too long before getting to the big pay out scenes.  Not only is Gimple promising action and excitement but he’s promising it early on in the season and often, particularly during the first 4 episodes of the season.  He continued:

“And even what I would call the quieter episode, which is episode 5, even looking at that, it still doesn’t feel chill and introspective.  We’re pushing ourselves to structure the stories in different ways, or at least, different ways than we’ve done in a long time.  It’s action on action on action.”

Alright, Gimple!  You’ve got our attention.  We can’t wait for season 8 of The Walking Dead to premiere on October 22nd at 9 pm EST only on AMC.  Are you excited?
