John Cena cast in Lead Role for ‘Bumblebee’ Movie
John Cena has made a name for himself in both the WWE ring and in the theaters over the past few years, and his name is about to get bigger. Yesterday, The Hollywood Reported brought us news stating that John Cena has nabbed a lead role in the Transformers spinoff Bumblebee.
Hailee Steinfeld is leading the cast of Paramount’s new film, which will center around one of our favorite Autobots, Bumblebee.
The story is set in the year 1987, where Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small California beach town. Charlie (Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary yellow VW bug.
Travis Knight, is directing the Bumblebee movie from a script by Christina Hodson. The movie will be the first spinoff in the Transformers Cinematic Universe.
Bumblebee is being produced by franchise veterans Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Michael Bay, along with executive producers Steven Spielberg, Brian Goldner and Mark Vahradian.
The film kicked off production Monday in California. Paramount has set a new release date of Dec. 21, 2018, which puts Bumblebee opposite Warner Bros.’ Aquaman.
