Could ‘The Rock’ save the ‘Transformers’ Series?

I have been a long time fan of the Transformers franchise, admiring the 80’s animated series as a child. I always found the adventures that both Bumblebee and Optimus Prime took to save the world quite thrilling. Now, it would appear as though the Transformers series itself is going to need some saving of its very own. The most recent film to be released Transformers: The Last Knight, recently crossed the $517 Million mark, making it the lowest grossing Transformers movie to date.

After both Mark Wahlberg and Michael Bay announced that this would be their last film in the franchise, fans began speculating as to who would be taking up the lead male role. Prior to Wahlberg, Shia Labeouf was our leading man for the first three films. Aside from the Bumblebee movie, which will star a female lead, the Transformers series is expected to carry on from where we left off in Transformers: The Last Knight.

So, who will be our new male lead? Many fans of the franchise have been speculating (and hoping, from the sounds of it) that the idealistic person would be Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. Lately ‘The Rock’ has made quite the name for himself, after joining the Fast and Furious series.

Prior to ‘The Rock’ joining the franchise, the 4th installment (2009) made $363, 064, 265 worldwide. When he came in for the 5th movie (2011), the film grossed a total of $629,969,804.

Could ‘The Rock’ coming into the films have saved the Fast series. Perhaps. It was definitely a factor to say the least, as he has a gigantic following and it is always highly enjoyable to see him in these movies.

So, if ‘The Rock’ were to join in on the Transformers series, could it be saved? Personally, I certainly believe it would get a lot more attention but at the same time, I think it is time to put the breaks on the Transformers series for some time. There are currently so many superhero movies that are releasing and in development all at the same time, that it is pulling the attention away from our favorite Autobots and Decepticons.

What do you think? If Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson would be casted as our lead, could the series be saved? Or do you think the series needs to take a ‘pause’ break for a few years?
