SDCC: ‘Shazam’ to Be Next Installment in DC Extended Universe
It’s official: Shazam is heading our way soon!
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed this morning that the film – centered on Billy Batson, a young boy who becomes Shazam thanks to an ancient sorcerer named the magic word – is scheduled to begin principal photography in early 2018 with a target release date of 2019.
Currently, DC films has reserved three slots for as of yet unnamed films – April 5th 2019, June 14th 2019, and November 1st 2019 – Shazam possibly falling into one of them, with speculation that a Cyborg solo film will fall into another slot. As of now, David Sandberg is attached to direct, however, an actor is yet to be cast as Shazam and its villain, Black Adam (played by Dwayne Johnson) is not attached to the project either. The news is especially surprising given that The Flash solo film was scheduled for a 2018 release but is now being put on the back burner due to having lost multiple directors as well as star Ezra Miller scheduled to film the Fantastic Beasts sequel.
DC’s next film, Justice League, will be released this November, followed by Aquaman in December 2018. Expect a new Justice League trailer this Saturday and maybe even some Aquaman footage during San Diego Comic Con this weekend!
What other DC films do you think are heading our way in 2019? Who’s your choice to play Shazam?
