‘Game of Thrones’ Star Emilia Clarke Recalls the Hilarious Events of Her First Time Meeting Jason Momoa
Usually, the first day at a new job is pretty similar to the first day at a new school. You dress nice and presentable. You show up early and you look forward to being introduced to your fellow coworkers in a formal and professional setting. That’s not exactly how the Game of Thrones cast first kicked things off.
In a fun and quirky recent interview with Rolling Stone, Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen on the HBO series, chatted about some of her first-time experiences. During the interview, she shares the story of the priceless moment when she first met Jason Momoa, who played Khal Drogo, her character’s love interest, on the series.
In real life, Momoa is quite different from his character on Game of Thrones. He is light-hearted, a practical joker and a totally free spirit so, while Clarke’s story of their first meeting is absolutely hilarious, it comes as no surprise. It’s 100% the way we would picture Momoa introducing himself. Clarke told Rolling Stone:
“The first time I met Jason Momoa was in a hotel lobby in Belfast. I walk in and I’m exhausted and I have my bags and I’m really tired and it was really late at night. And I walk in, and from the other side of this enormous lobby, I hear ‘WIFEY!’”
Now, that call to attention from Momoa is funny enough, however, he takes things one step further. Or a giant, bounding dash across the hotel lobby further. Clarke Continues:
“And this huge Hawaiian man comes bounding over to me, picks me up, and genuinely gets me in like a rugby tackle to the floor. It was only when he picked me back up and kind of dusted me off, and I was like, ‘Who are you?’”
The rest, as they say, is history. Clarke and Momoa had an amazing chemistry on screen which caused both characters to quickly become fan favorites.
In the below interview clip, Clarke goes on to discuss her first time acting with the dragons (she was naked, by the way), the first time she got drunk, the first time she Googled herself and more. Check out the full clip below.
Game of Thrones will return for its 7th season on July 16th on HBO.
