Fan Fest Fuzzies: WATCH Gobi Run Her Way Into Dion’s Heart
The story of Gobi and his partner Dion Leonard is one that we truly love and most definitely give you the warm and fuzzy feels.
It all began when Leonard, an ultramarathon runner, embarked on a seven-day marathon in the Chinese Gobi Desert. As he ran, he noticed that he had a small shadow that followed him on his trail. The little shadow, a stray dog, did not leave his side throughout the marathon and managed to keep pace with the runner. At one point, they came upon a shallow river where Leonard was able to run through. Unfortunately for the little dog, she was unable to follow him since she didn’t know how to swim. Frantic and scared, she looked on as her new friend ran on without her. Leonard couldn’t bear her cries and circled back to get her. It was then that Leonard knew their bond was special and he decided to adopt the pup.
After the race, in the midst of the adoption process, the stray dog, now named Gobi, went missing while still in China. After an extensive search and help from volunteers, Gobi and Leonard were finally reunited again.

Leonard went on to write a book, Finding Gobi: The Amazing True Story, about their experience and how finding each other has changed them. He also continues to document their adventures on their Finging Gobi Instagram account.
