Netflix’s ‘GLOW’ Soundtrack is Full of Awesome 80s Nostalgia
Have you binge-watched Netflix’s newest hit series GLOW yet? The first season of the series is pretty awesome.
GLOW starring Alison Brie, Marc Maron and Betty Gilpin tells a fictional tale about the once very real world of the “Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling.” GLOW was a women’s professional wrestling series which first aired in 1986. Much like wrestling within the WWE (or, at the time it was the WWF), the female wrestlers would play characters and personas and battle against each other in a perfectly orchestrated wrestling match until one winner was victorious.
The new series is entertaining, funny and a lot of fun to watch. If you haven’t seen it already and you’re not quite sure if it’s going to be something you’d enjoy, perhaps the awesome 80s soundtrack will help convince you.
The soundtrack is comprised of some of the most epic 80s rock classics that are sure to take you on a nostalgic rollercoaster ride down memory lane. With contributions from iconic 80s bands such as Quiet Riot, Journey, Roxette, Motley Crue, Berlin, Lita Ford, Guns N’Roses and much more, the soundtrack totally rocks!
Music supervisor Bruce Gilbert did a fantastic job compiling what’s basically the greatest hits of the decade. Gilbert was excited to take on the challenge, basically just picking out his favorites from his old mixtapes. Gilbert told Entertainment Weekly:
“It’s not every show you get to just dive into your past. I moved from Toronto to California when I was 10, and basically my only memory of leaving there, in like ‘82, is hitting play and record on my parents’ tape deck while the Top 40 was playing and cherry-picking the songs that I was going to put on the deck that I would listen to on the plane over here. So I’m connected to that very specific period.”
His connection with the 80s rings clear as a bell because the soundtrack is seriously spot on! Check out the awesome compilation via Spotify below:

“GLOW tells the fictional story of Ruth Wilder (Brie), an out-of-work, struggling actress in 1980s Los Angeles who finds one last chance for stardom when she’s thrust into the glitter and spandex world of women’s wrestling. In addition to working with 12 Hollywood misfits, Ruth also has to compete with Debbie Eagan (Betty Gilpin) a former soap actress who left the business to have a baby, only to be sucked back into work when her picture perfect life is not what it seems. And at the wheel is Sam Sylvia (Marc Maron), a washed-up, B-movie director who now must lead this group of women on the journey to wrestling stardom.”
