Anthony Edwards Jokingly Pitches Ghost Goose for ‘Top Gun’ Sequel

Many successful Hollywood blockbusters center around a power duo of characters.  Frodo and Samwise.  Beauty and the Beast.  Tom Hanks’ character from Castaway and Wilson the volleyball.  And, of course, Maverick and Goose!

With the recent announcement from Maverick himself, Tom Cruise, that a brand new Top Gun film was in the works and is expected to begin filming later on this year, the question that sprung to everyone’s mind was, “who, exactly, from the original cast would be returning?”  Would Val Kilmer be returning to reprise his role as Iceman?  Would Kelly McGillis be back as well?  And what about Goose?

But, seriously, what about Goose?  Spoiler alert, although, is it really a spoiler if the film is from 1986? But anyway, spoiler alert!  Goose (played by Anthony Edwards) dies in the original film so, naturally, nobody would be calling Edwards, asking him to reprise his role in the film, right?  That’s not exactly the way Anthony Edwards sees it.

Anthony Edwards wants to be a part of Top Gun: Maverick and he has already thought of the perfect way to reprise his role.  Ghost Goose!

In Edwards’ hilarious pitch which was aired during The Late Show wth Stephen Colbert, he encourages fans to storm social media and lobby for the return of his character, Ghost Goose:

“Get on social media, and start lobbying for Ghost Goose using this hashtag: #ghostgoose,” Edwards said. “And tell America you feel the need, the need for ghost Goose.”

Check out Anthony Edwards’ plea for the reincarnation of his beloved Top Gun character below.  What do you think?  Would you want to see Ghost Goose in Top Gun: Maverick?
