‘Wynonna Earp’ Recap: “Shed Your Skin”

Only two episodes into Wynonna Earp’s new season and it already feels like we see a different side of the supernatural happenings in Purgatory. This week, it was huge creepy spiders while getting a glimpse at the sense that there’s more coming the Earps’ way.

Now that Wynonna and the team signed Moody’s contract, everyone’s learning how to deal with each other. That agreement and forced cooperation led to a hilarious opening scene in this week’s hour that involved Doc, Wynonna, and a decontamination shower, with a reminder that “goo is bad.” With Black Badge and Lucado’s search for a demon to begin studying, Wynonna gets a shot to capture another one as Purgatory’s current construction, a condo, gets infested by spiders. But it’s not just the spiders they have to contend with as a pair of eerie, black-veiled entities seem to keep haunting the development which was a former school in Purgatory. While Wynonna initially thought that it was Willa haunting her, we soon find that there’s more to these entities, their ties to the building, and their purpose is more than just haunting.

The Earp sisters go into bug-busting mode and bring back a sample for Lucado and the team. They return to the scene of the crime, though, once Jerry tells them about the creatures’ environment and discover that whatever was controlling the spiders had other ideas. The sisters find a dead revenant as well as a crack on a seal of sorts. But who caused it and what are they up to?

Meanwhile, Doc’s up to something, and it’s not necessarily clear what it is so far, just that involves the bar and a woman named Rosita who he has recruited for something. After masterfully taking Lucado down a peg and showing her exactly what his purpose on the team is, the question about what he’s up to with the bar and Rosita still stands.

While the investigation into the creature/demon of the week continues, both Wynonna and Waverly are dealing with their issues as the older Earp sister is still working through Dolls’ absence and the younger one goes through an identity crisis of sorts.

Things are also a little tense for most of the hour as Waverly is still dealing with what Bobo told her about not being a real Earp which causes a bit of a rift between her and Nicole. That tension seemingly goes away as we get a sweet between the pair as Nicole surprises her with proof that can confirm that she’s an Earp and prove that she’s “the Earpiest Earp of them all.”

Now, the fact that she’s got those demon eyes and she’s eating that spider by the end of the hour brings up a load of questions including how long before someone figures it out and what’s going to happen to Waverly once they do?

Thanks for reading! What did you think of the episode?
