[REVIEW] ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’ Brings out the Best Moments of Captain Jack Sparrow

Let me tell you guys, I was so scared to see this movie. I don’t usually look at reviews, but they were everywhere. In this case, they weren’t so good, at all. It clouded my judgement and I was afraid they would’ve ruined the movie franchise that I’ve learned to love.

But, yet again, I was proven to never listen to what critics have to say as this was an amazing movie. Here is our spoiler free review.

Storyline

I was very impressed when I saw the storyline. I have to say, the way they described it was very cliché. See below:

Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar, escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.

It was one of the other reasons why I got scared and the critics were almost proven right. Except they weren’t. The storyline had so much more to it and it has so many twists and turns. Things happened that I never thought would happen in the movies that lead up to Dead Men Tell No Tales. And yes, it’s Jack Sparrow’s fault. It’s always Jack Sparrow’s fault! Are you even surprised after all he has done? He and his precious rum always get in trouble (most times because of the rum). Yet again, an army of dead pirates is after him. Doesn’t this sound familiar to the first movie? Even though it seems to be the same, there is a world of difference.

Jack Sparrow

What can we say, Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) was… well, Jack Sparrow. There is no surprise there. He really does make the movie like he always does. Even though, in the other movies, he had some sober moments, in this movie it seemed he was all but sober. Which leads to very funny moments, right at the start of the movie. He is the reason the whole storyline starts and develops. We also get a glimpse of how he became the famous Captain Jack Sparrow and honestly, it’s the part we’ve all been waiting to see. Everything in his past is the reason why he is the famous Captain Jack Sparrow.

Hector Barbossa

Hector Barbossa, even though you could wring his neck at times when he’s double crossing people (and only doing it because its better for him and it keeps him alive), he surprised us the most in the movie. Of course, he’s always in Jack’s way, but this time it was different. Let us just say, that you have to see the movie to know what we’re talking about! We’re not about to spoil anything!

All Other Characters

Let us applaud Javier Bardem for his performance as the ghost Captain Salazar. He was one of the reasons this movie was so good and he was a part of the storyline that knew to capture our attentions. Even though, he wanted to kill Jack (but truly at this point, who doesn’t? Have we ever seen someone that doesn’t want to kill Jack? Exactly my point).

Brenton Thwaites made history repeat with his performance as Henry Turner. From moment one when this picture came out (that you’ll see below) I knew he would be stepping into his father’s footsteps. It was a very familiar moment if you ask me!

Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario) was one of those people that get dragged in a story much bigger than what she thought she would be in. She only wanted one thing and that was to find the trident. Boy, would she be in for a surprise the moment she met Jack Sparrow and Henry Turner.

Can we way how funny Paul McCartney was as Uncle Jack? This was one of the moments that left my sister and me gasping for air because we were laughing so hard. This was probably one of my favorite moments in the whole movie. Just watch out for this moment in the movie!

The only question I have after this movie, is when Jack Sparrow is right back at its place of being a captain and he has his ship and compass back… Where does his compass lead to? It’s supposed to lead to something he wants most in life, so where does it lead? What does it all mean?! We need to know!

We would give this movie a 4/5 rate. Just because of the points made above.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is out now in theaters. Have you seen it? If so, what did you think about this movie? Let us know in the comment section!
