Milo Ventimiglia Originally Considered Playing the Role of Kevin on ‘This Is Us’

NBC’s series This Is Us is arguable the biggest breakout series of 2016.  The series brings to life real life issues relating to family, friends, relationships and more.  A major part of the success of the series can be attributed to the relatable and lovable characters featured in the show.  Fans of the series have often commented that they can see themselves in one or more characters on the show.  Several others have commented on how they wish they had someone like Jack Pearson in their lives.

Jack Pearson is the hopelessly romantic patriarch of the series who is flawlessly portrayed by Milo Ventimiglia.  But, what if Ventimiglia didn’t play the role of Jack?  Can you picture him in another role on the series?  According to Ventimiglia, he almost went out for the role of Kevin Pearson, Jack’s son who is played also flawlessly by Justin Hartley, on the series.

During the This Is Us panel at the ATX Television Festival, Ventimiglia explained his revelation:

“At first, I was like, ‘Should I be Kevin?’ Because I’m an actor. So I’m thinking, ‘Well, maybe, no, I’ll be the actor,’ but then, you know, I’d been a huge fan of not only Dan Fogelman but John Requa and Glenn Ficarra, and I knew the three of them together, and I believed in what they believed in me.”

Now, we are fully confident that Ventimiglia could play any role in any series because he is simply just that talented but, we LOVE him as Jack Pearson.  We couldn’t really see any other actor playing that role and, luckily for all of us, Ventimiglia quickly came to his senses.  Ventimiglia went on to explain that, once he really began to get acquainted with the role of Jack, he found an instant connection:

“When I dove into Jack, I found this instant connection to a man that felt incredibly familiar even though I don’t have kids and it just felt right.”
