Adam West, Star of TV’s ‘Batman,’ Dies at 88
It’s with a heavy heart that we report to you that legendary actor, TV’s Batman Adam West has died. A spokesperson for the West family said he died after a short battle with leukemia. He was 88 years old.
“A true American icon and beloved father and husband, he will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and millions of fans around the world,” the spokesperson said.
Best known for playing the role of Batman on the 1960’s TV series, West’s career spanned over the course of six decades and was comprised of more than 50 films and television shows. He is more recently known for his voice work on the TV show Family Guy as Mayor Adam West.
West has also been very active in the comic book convention scene, becoming a staple guest at shows like New York Comic Con.
He passed away surrounded by family and survived by his wife Marcelle, six children, five grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
The statement from his family read:
“Our dad always saw himself as The Bright Knight, and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans’ lives. He was and always will be our hero.”
The family has also released a statement via West’s Facebook page which reads:
“It’s with great sadness that we are sharing this news…Adam West passed away peacefully last night after a short but brave battle with leukemia. He was a beloved father, husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather. There are no words to describe how much we’ll miss him. We know you’ll miss him too and we want you to know how much your love and support meant to him throughout the years. Hug your loved ones today.
