'Sherlock's' Andrew Scott Provides Update on Season 5

Sorry, Sherlock fans: Looks like it’ll be a very long wait for Season 5.

In a newly published interview with the RadioTimes, Sherlock actor Andrew Scott – who plays the famous Sherlock villain James Moriarty – said the new season may not happen for a couple of years.

“I don’t think there’s another series of Sherlock coming soon. I think another General Election would come first! Typically, British general elections happen every five years, with the current one scheduled for tomorrow, June 8th.”

The actor then clarified by saying, “We’re not doing Sherlock for another couple of years. Everybody’s got quite busy, you know? You want to keep it fresh and stuff like that.”

It’s understandable that Sherlock would be taking quite a hiatus with lead actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman’s upcoming projects. Freeman is set to reprise his role as Everett Ross in next year’s Black Panther while Cumberbatch is currently filming How the Grinch Stole Christmas as well as Avengers: Infinity War where he will also reprise his role as the Sorcerer Supreme Dr. Stephen Strange. His next film, The Current War is scheduled to be released this December.
