The Gap Between Avatar and Avatar 2 Doesn’t Worry James Cameron

With Pandora – World of Avatar opening at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida –  Avatar, the film has been the talk of social media. The movie was visually stunning, it pulled viewers in, and it then created the base for a series of films to follow, but they’ve not done so quickly.

In fact, the first Avatar film came out in 2009 and the next film, Avatar 2 isn’t set to debut now until 2020. The film was meant to hit theaters in 2014, the next rumored year was 2018, but now James Cameron has set official dates for the following films and fans are excited about the timeline. Once the ball gets rolling, the films are going to continue in a quick succession – at least in the movie world.

Aside from fan excitement, numbers are also on James’ side as far as revenue goes. Avatar made over 2.7 billion dollars worldwide which only goes to prove that he has nothing to worry about. In addition to the draw of the films, the money Avatar made, and the fan support – James is also one of the most successful people in the film industry, so he knows what he’s doing.

He spoke with CNN on not being worried about the gap between films, and he’s secure in his reasoning.

Well, it didn’t hurt Avatar, that there was no Avatar before Avatar. So I kind of rest my case. But it was a seven-year gap between The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day, seven-year gap between Alien and Aliens. It’s gonna be obviously more like a ten-year gap between Avatar and Avatar 2. But Avatar 2 you are going to with not the promise, but the certainty of three more films beyond that, and that’s a very different concept with the audience. And a lot of the delay has been around creating that overall vision. And by the way, this land will help bridge that gap in the public conscience. People will come here, and say, man, I need some Avatar.’

Avatar 2 premieres December 18, 2020. Avatar 3 on December 17, 2021, On December 20, 2024, Avatar 4 will debut and the last of the films, Avatar 5, will arrive on December 19, 2025.
