Check out these X-Men The New Mutants Details

The X-Men New Mutants film is going into production in July so more details about what to expect have been surfacing. We’ve seen a couple confirmed cast members, some dates for an expected timeframe, and we know who is behind the idea for this film.

Josh Boone and his life-long best friend Knate Lee pitched the idea for their film via a comic they created and said that they’re glad to see so many avenues available for exploration with X-Men spinoffs.

Josh also said that he wants fans to know that he’s taking this role very seriously.

You can’t have a bigger nerd or fan making this. It’s so important to me. I’m not the 12-year-old who decided to write Stephen King a letter and loved Marvel Comics anymore, but I try to hold myself accountable to that kid. Because that kid is what keeps me from becoming a Hollywood whore. I look back and think: Would he think this would be cool? Would he proud of me? Did I fulfill the dream we had when we were kids? So yeah, you can definitely say I’m excited.’

Josh didn’t share the plot of the film, but he did reference the No. 18 comic book which artist Bill Sienkiewicz came in and turned the series just a bit darker. Josh had this to say about the difference.

A darker and more surreal and impressionistic X-Men series than we’d ever seen before. It felt like Stephen King meets John Hughes.

A source gave a bit of information about the project and without giving too much away, he simply said that the mutants are at their most dangerous when they’re teenagers, just learning how to navigate their powers.

Five new mutants have to battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past. They aren’t out to save the world — they’re just trying to save themselves.

The film is being scheduled for a Spring 2018 release, so we won’t have to wait too long to find out what the mutants will encounter, and before you go, here’s one more…interesting piece of information about the film, and perhaps our favorite part so far, from Josh Boone himself.

We are making a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe. There are no costumes. There are no supervillains. We’re trying to do something very, very different.’
