Celine Dion Brings the Entire Room to Tears with a Phenomenal Performance at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards
The 2017 Billboard Music Awards aired on Sunday night with an evening full of outstanding performances by some of the biggest names in the music industry. One of the most notable from the night was Celine Dion’s 20th anniversary tribute to what is arguably her greatest hit of all time, My Heart Will Go On.
It was announced earlier this month that Dion would be performing the song. My Heart Will Go On reigned at the number 1 spot on the Billboard 200 and Billboard Hot 100, respectively, in 1998. The song also won Grammys for “Song of the Year” and “Record of the Year” in 1999.
You almost forget how incredibly powerful and emotional the song is until you hear Dion, herself, perform it live. Dressed in a gorgeous white gown, she took to the stage surrounded by a sparkling chandelier which, according to Billboard, was a mile high! Encased behind the curtain of crystal, as she began to sing, the crowd was completely enamored with her elegant vocals. At some points during the performance, the crowd even sang along with her.
The chandelier began to lift as the song progressed and built towards the most dramatic portion of piece. At this point in the performance, Dion went into full on passion mode delivering the power house vocals that we have come to expect (and perhaps even take for granted) from her.
In a word, her performance was breathtaking. In several words, it was iconic, elegant, legendary and moving. This was made evident not only by the crowds thunderous applause at the end of the song but, by host Vanessa Hudgens who was literally left speechless after the performance. Earlier in the evening, Hudgens performed a snippet of Dion’s hit The Power of Love. Even after a commercial break, Hudgens, with tissues in hand, was still teary-eyed and overcome with emotions from Celine Dion’s performance.
Celine Dion’s performance will, no doubt, go down in history as one of the Billboard Music Awards most memorable and iconic moments.
