New ‘Amityville’ Film Gets New Director. Will Focus on DeFeo Murders

After countless sequels, reboots, and retellings, the ‘Amityville’ story is getting the film that I think it deserves. Don’t get me wrong, I was and am a fan of the original film starring Margot Kidder and James Brolin and the remake was okay too but I don’t think there has been a film that got to the heart of the story itself. Where the story began and or why.

Well, a new film by CineTel Films and director Daniel Farrands is to be starting production on The Haunting on Long Island: The Amityville Murders this summer. The only other details regarding the film is that it will focus on the events surrounding the DeFeo murders.

CineTel Films is hoping to get funding for the film at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Good luck that it happens.

In the early morning hours of November 13, 1974, Ronald “Butch” DeFeo Jr. shot and killed his parents and four younger siblings. He shot them with a .35 caliber shotgun at approximately 3 am.

Keep checking in here at Fan Fest News for any updates. Until then, here is the film’s synopsis:

On the night of November 13, 1974, Ronald DeFeo, Jr. took a high-powered rifle and murdered his entire family as they slept. At his trial, DeFeo claimed that “voices” in the house commanded him to kill. Thirteen months later, the Lutz family bought the house and stayed only 28 days before fleeing in terror. Their nightmarish ordeal shocked the world in The Amityville Horror. The Lutzes may have escaped from Amityville with their lives … but the DeFeo’s weren’t so lucky. This is their story.”
