Claire Underwood Sends Subliminal Messages in Creepy New ‘House of Cards’ Trailer
A new trailer for Netflix’s House of Cards dropped on Tuesday and it’s totally creeping us out! The new season 5 trailer features First Lady and vice presidential nominee Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) and she is delivering a message directly to you, the American people. Facing forward and breaking the fourth wall, she speaks about safety, the media, the impending election and the need to look out for each other or, watch each other. She says:
“I’ve been meaning to talk with you. It’s terrifying, isn’t it? The President and I have a simple request: Tell us what you see. If anything in your environment strikes you as a bit odd, a bit off, pick up the phone. Whether it’s a package or person that seems out of place, we’d love you to let us know, because there’s a lot of noise out there these days. A noisy press that’s choosing to dwell on the past instead of what’s happening right now. My husband and I want to protect you. In two weeks’ time, you will be heading to the ballot box to decide what kind of country you want to live in. It’s a profound choice. But no matter who wins this election, we’re going to need to work together, watch out for each other, and yes, watch each other. To keep us all safe and sound, tell us what you see.”
Her tone is cold and direct. Her facial expression is emotionless or, it might even be considered a slight look of concern or fear. At the end of last season Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) and Claire made the decision to use fear tactics in order to sway American voters but, there is definitely something else going on during this minute and a half trailer. Check out the trailer and see if you notice anything else that seems “off” about it:
