Lea Michele Says Céline Dion is an ‘Inspiration’ After Losing the Love of her Life

Lea Michele just released her second album, Places, and she’s been doing promotion for the record for weeks now. She’s been discussing everything from the songwriting process to what inspires her music and even how she stays fit both at home and on the road.

Lea is an inspiration to her fans. Not only is she talented, compassionate, humble, and a total free spirit; she’s stronger than she gives herself credit for. Or at least stronger than she acknowledges sometimes. She’s been open about her struggles in the past, she dealt with the loss of her boyfriend Cory Monteith in the public eye, and she’s learned how to live again; all without asking ‘why me’.

While many people look up to Lea, she recently did an interview where she spoke of two people who inspire her the most. One of those women is Céline Dion, a woman who knows what it feels like to lose that important part of your heart all too well.

Lea spoke of Céline and how she’s handled herself with poise after losing the love of her life to cancer.

I look at someone like Céline and how she has held herself with such dignity and respect. She just lost the love of her life, and she holds herself with such poise, and she’s taking care of her voice and trying to stay true to herself. I adore her. And obviously Barbra Streisand — they’ve always been these role models for me growing up, and it made me work harder and take better care of myself to just be the best that I can be.

Lea knows the pain of losing someone you love all too well, the love of her life Cory Monteith passed away tragically in 2013 and a lot of Lea’s music is laced with pieces of their romance, his strength, and their great love story.

On her new album, a song ‘Hey You’ is especially tear-jerking; an ode to Cory, and also ‘Getaway Car’ – both songs talk about the love they shared and how it transformed them. Lea has shared the meaning behind ‘Getaway Car’ but ‘Hey You’ is still harder for her to talk about, upon hearing it, it’s easy to see why.

Despite it being about a more sensitive subject matter, when I listen to it, my overall feeling that I get from it is just joy and love.

We admire both Lea and Céline for their perseverance and continued strength during the hardest times of their lives.
