WATCH: Deflating Pikachu Rushed Off Stage During Dance Number Gone Wrong

This viral video definitely gives a new meaning to the term, “Deflategate!”  In what can only be described as a stunt pulled off by Team Rocket, near tragedy struck during the dance of the Pikachus at the Pokemon World Festival in Songdo, South Korea on Friday.

15 Pikachus came out onto the stage to perform a dance in celebration of the lovable and loyal Pokemon mascot. Their first number, which was set to Bruno Mars’ Uptown Funk, went off without a hitch.  Each Pikachu perfectly performed and danced their ways into hearts of the audience.

During their second number, however, thing began to go wrong for the lead Pikachu in the group.  The song transitioned into Nikki Blonsky’s rendition of You Can’t Stop the Beat from the movie musical Hairspray and, well, the lead Pikachu landed a little flat.  As his costume began to slowly deflate, rather than casually escorting the little guy off the stage, about 7 frantic men ran out into the sea of Pikachus to forcibly remove him from the group.

As a result of the crazy response to the flattening of our electrified friend, hilarity ensues.  Flat Pikachu even tries to make a comeback to the group towards the end of the clip.  Thanks to NPR, we finally have an explanation as to what the heck happened here.   As NPR explains, it appears the first man who ran to Pikachu’s rescue was a stagehand trying to solve the deflation problem.  The men in suits seemingly are security who confused the stagehand for an overzealous Pokemon fan who was bum-rushing the stage.

The whole thing really is quite hilarious.  Check out the viral video of Pikachu Deflategate below:
