M. Night Shyamalan Confirms Sequel for ‘Unbreakable’ and ‘Split’

An announcement 17 years in the making!   M. Night Shyamalan has been teasing fans since February of a possible follow up to his most recent film Split, which was released in theaters last year.  Yesterday, writer and director told fans of a HUGE announcement coming their way on Wednesday around 12pm.  Speculation ran rampant but, the most common theory was that the announcement would finally give fans the confirmation of that teased sequel.

Today, fans got exactly what they had hoped for and MORE when, through a series of tweets, Shyamalan’s announcement not only a confirmed follow up to Split but, also that the Split sequel film will also collide with one of his early classics Unbreakable!

According to Shyamalan’s tweet, the new sequel film is called Glass and it will complement the previous two films, creating a trilogy of sorts.  Bruce Willis (David Dunn) and Samuel L. Jackson (Mr. Glass) will return to reprise their roles in the previous film.  James McAvoy is also on board reviving 25 personalities (etcetera!) from the Split films.  Glass is currently set to be released by Universal on Jan. 18, 2019.

If you’ve seen Split, you might have noticed that there was a reference to Shyamalan’s film Unbreakable, which was originally released in theaters on November 14, 2000, tucked away in the film, right at the very end.  Did you catch it?  It ALL makes sense now, sort of!  17 years of film-making will be brought full circle with this upcoming sequel.  We can’t WAIT to see how Shyamalan will bring these films together!

Check out a snippet of the series of tweets below.  Are you excited for the upcoming Unbreakable and Split sequel?
