Chris Pratt on Suicide Squad ‘They were introducing too many characters’

Suicide Squad was one of the most talked about superhero and villain films of all time. The movie, focusing on the ‘bad guys’ created a type of subculture among fans of some of the heroes that stood against the villains in original comics/movies and fans of the villains themselves. From Deadshot to The Joker and Harley Quinn – there was no shortage in badassery for Suicide Squad, even if some fans felt that it fell short in the grand scheme of things.

Chris Pratt is of a superhero world all his own in Guardians of the Galaxy and he spoke on the difference between the time spent by Marvel on the characters that fans grow attached to in comics and watch come to life on screen – and the difference between that and what DC does. His opinion did mirror the opinion of many other viewers who wished they’d been able to see more of the backstories of the characters in suicide squad.

I really like all the Warner Bros. movies,” he said to io9 recently. “I think they’re really cool and I’m not a real tough critic on those movies. But one of the flaws might have been they were introducing too many characters in Suicide Squad. They spent 10 minutes telling us why should we care about these characters, rather than creating trilogies for each character and convincing us to care about the characters.

While Suicide Squad was still overwhelmingly successful, we do anticipate seeing more films outside of the Marvel universe giving attention to characters in spin-offs or in cameo roles in other films before they give major starring roles to certain characters – both heroes and villains. This is already happening with Harley Quinn and Wonder Woman, but we’re still really rooting for a look into what makes Deadshot tick and how El Diablo really lost it all.

While constructive criticism is always welcome, it’s nice to see how effortlessly Chris supports other realms n the great existence of the comic book universe. We are loving the press junkets and interviews leading up to Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and can’t wait to be some of the first people to see it in theaters.

Will you be going to any early screenings? Let us know.
