Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen in Talks to Voice Timon and Pumbaa in Live-Action Remake of ‘The Lion King’

Jon Favreau’s live-action remake of Disney’s The Lion King is getting closer to completing its already stellar cast.  Earlier this year, it was announced that Donald Glover was joining the cast as Simba and that James Earl Jones would be reprising his role as Mufasa, Simba’s father.  Pretty awesome stuff so far!

On Tuesday, it was announced that Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen are reportedly in talks to join the film playing the beloved duo of Timon and Pumbaa.  Eichner would play the high-strung meerkat, Timon while Rogen would play the whimsical and flatulent warthog, Pumbaa.

Originally voiced by Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella, Timon and Pumbaa quickly became fan favorites in the original 1994 Lion King film and, together, sang one of the most recognizable songs from the film, Hakuna Matata.  From 1995 through 1999, Timon and Pumbaa were featured in a fairly successful television cartoon series and in 2004, they were also featured in a film spinoff called The Lion King 1 1/2.

Like the song says, Hakuna Matata means no worries. We have absolutely NO worries about Eichner and Rogen potential pairing up for these roles.  Seriously, how awesome would Billy “on the street” Eichner be as Timon?
