Watch the Trailer for WWE Sensation Chyna’s Documentary

Chyna shattered everybody’s perception of what a female was capable of.

On April, 20th of 2016 the world of WWE suffered an incredible loss. Reps for Chyna broke the news that the ‘real life superhero’ passed away. It was extremely unexpected and shook friends, family, and fans of the WWE to the core. Her absence is still felt today – there’s no one who could take her place in the sport.

The statement, via her Twitter account, read as follows.

It is with deep sadness to inform you today that we lost a true icon, a real life superhero. Joanie Laurer, AKA Chyna, the 9th Wonder of the World has passed away. She will live forever in the memories of her millions of fans and all of us that loved her.”

Her death was revealed as due to an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. Friends aid she had a lot going on in her life at the time of her death and with the stress on top of her diagnosed insomnia – she just needed help to get through it all.

Her life was a spectacle, from her first moments in the ring and her overnight rise to the top to the darkness of the business and her quick fall – further down than where she’d started from – it was all made very public. To some, she was an inspiration and to some, she was a narcissist with an addiction, but to those who love her – she was more than words can describe. That’s why her absence is so deeply felt. It’s also why there’s a documentary made about her life, with the struggles and the triumphs, being shown in the same light.

Wresting with Chyna has no release date but the first trailer dropped today, a year after her death, and it puts her life into a real perspective. She wasn’t just an entertainer, she was a woman underneath it all, and she may have never truly felt like she was deserving of what it meant to feel like one. She had a role to play, but it’s clear that she never truly felt comfortable with herself.

The footage is hard to watch, but also necessary, as it shows some of her career highs alongside her personal lows and gives everyone who watches a new sense of who she was.

Erik Angra, the documentary’s director, talked to E! News about what to expect from the finished product and also, how in hindsight, those who loved Chyna wish they could have done more to save her. It’s said that in her last few weeks, her loved ones were worried that she was developing a problem but the process of getting her the help she may have needed took too long. It’s something he’ll carry with him forever.

In the last few weeks of her life, we all did become concerned that she was actually having a real problem. We reached out to the management and we reached out to her lawyers. They were all scrambling trying to get her help and that’s something I’ll live with the rest of my life. Just feeling like I didn’t do enough and the guilt of that.
