Amber Riley is currently starring in Dreamgirls as Effie White in the musical at the Savoy Theatre in the West End of London. Riley is best known for her role as Mercedes Jones in Glee. There, her voice stole the show as she played a teenager trying to make it through high school. The series still means a lot to those who love music and musicals, and her character will always be a stand out on the series.
Her soulful voice has continued, and will always, to take her places – most recently – to the theater in London. She was at the Oliver Awards for a performance but also to take home the win for Best Actress in a musical. The Oliver Award is equivalent to the US’s Tony Award which is an incredible honor.
Amber received a lot of praise online, and some of that came from the original Dreamgirl herself, Jennifer Holliday. We can only imagine the moment was quite inspirational.
In terms of inspiration, Amber had some to offer the audience and viewers at home.
“I hope that anyone who sees a little bit of themselves in me and sees me standing on this stage, I hope that you’re inspired,” Riley said in her speech. “I hope that you can know that you can do this if you really want to.”
