‘IT’ Sets Record for Most Watched Trailer Overnight
The upcoming fall horror film IT, based off the 1986 novel by Stephen King, has sped past The Fate of the Furious and War for Planet of the Apes, setting the record for the most-watched trailer online in a single day.
The trailer for the film, produced by Warner Bros. and directed by Andres Muschietti, scored 197 million views globally within 24 hours of it being released. At 36 hours, the trailer held a count of 246 million views.
That figure stood at 246 million views, 36 hours past its release.
The film follows seven children who are terrorized by the evil clown known as Pennywise, who ‘feeds’ off the fears of its victims; disguising itself as what its target fears most in order to track down its prey.
Not only was the hype very real over streaming websites such as Youtube and Hulu, which showed the trailer, but social media (Twitter in particular) was also abuzz with hashtags like #HereComesPennywise #Clown #ItMovie and even #WeAllFloat. Even Stephen King himself joined in on the fun.
It will creep into theaters on September 8th, 2017.
