Joss Whedon To Direct Batgirl Film

Joss Whedon To Direct Batgirl Film

Batgirl is finally getting her big screen solo film and Joss Whedon is at the helm.

Variety has exclusively reported that along with directing, Whedon will also write and produce the untitled film as part of the DC Extended Universe. So far there are no other producers attached to the project, which will feature other characters from the world of Gotham City. Batgirl made her first on-screen appearance in 1997’s Batman and Robin starring George Clooney and Chris O’Donnell, played by Alicia Silverstone. However, in the film, she was the niece of Alfred Pennyworth rather than the daughter of police commissioner James Gordon. In the FOX series Gotham, Barbara’s (Erin Richards) took the last name Gordon while she and Jim were engaged.

Whedon is no stranger to superhero films having written and directed both 2012’s The Avengers and 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. He also created Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., currently airing on ABC.
