Amy Schumer drops out of Live-Action “Barbie” Film

Our favorite funny girl, Amy Schumer, is sadly dropping her latest film project- a live-action Barbie film.

Back in December, when Schumer took the role, she faced a lot of backlash. And she handled it in the best way possible.

“I am strong and proud of how I live my life and say what I mean and fight for what I believe in and I have a blast doing it with the people I love. Where’s the shame? It’s not there. It’s an illusion,” she responded on Instagram.

The film is slated to address issues like that- self-esteem, being perfect and female empowerment, which are all things that Schumer stands for.

Schumer hasn’t specified why she is leaving the project, but she did express to EW how bummed she is about dropping out.

“Sadly, I’m no longer able to commit to Barbie due to scheduling conflicts. The film has so much promise, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners. I’m bummed, but look forward to seeing Barbie on the big screen.”

Schumer has a lot coming up, the mother-daughter comedy Snatched and the war drama Thank You for Your Service, both due out this year. She also just joined the cast of She Came to Me and Who Invited Her? So her overflowing calendar could be to blame for her decision.

“We respect and support Amy’s decision,” a Sony spokesperson said on Thursday. “We look forward to bringing Barbie to the world and sharing updates on casting and filmmakers soon.”

Hopefully whoever steps in for the role shares the same positive body image and positive self-esteem values that Schumer and Barbie do.

The live-action Barbie film is still set to hit theaters June 29, 2018.
